Kuching Choral Festival Brings Workshops And King’s Singers Concert To Sarawak
The Oct. 9-12 festival combines workshops, masterclasses, cultural exchanges and performances at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, with Sunday's concert starting at 7:30 p.m.
Kuching is hosting a four-day international choral festival and symposium this weekend, with workshops and cultural exchanges alongside a Sunday concert featuring British vocal ensemble The King's Singers.
The Sada Kenyalang International Choral Festival and International Choral Symposium is listed for Oct. 9 to 12 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, according to Business Events Sarawak's calendar. The organiser is the Kuching City First Choir Association.
The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore describes the programme as combining workshops, masterclasses, performances, cultural exchanges and opportunities to meet members of the international choral community. Its invitation addresses choir singers, conductors, music educators and other people interested in choral music.
The format brings educational activity and public performance into the same weekend. For singers and teachers, the workshops offer a different kind of participation from attending a concert; audiences planning a single evening should check the specific performance listing rather than assuming a festival registration covers every event.
Sunday Concert Starts At 7:30 P.M.
The association's Music and Words 2026 ticketing page lists The King's Singers concert for Sunday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at BCCK. It also identifies the Jehté Chamber Choir among the evening's performers.
The listing specifies 90 minutes without intermission, doors opening 30 minutes earlier, zone seating, semi-formal dress and a recommended minimum age of 9.
Individual ticket categories listed on the page range from RM100 to RM180, with a RM300 VIP package also offered. Additional fees apply. Group-discount entries refer to an offer before Sept. 1; those historical prices should not be read as confirmation of a current discount or of seats still being available.
The page says every attendee needs a valid ticket, late admission may be restricted to suitable breaks, and photography, video and audio recording are prohibited. Readers should confirm the final price and availability through the organiser's booking page before making arrangements.
A Long-Running Vocal Ensemble
The King's Singers' own concert calendar corroborates the Oct. 11 Kuching performance and its 7:30 p.m. start. It also lists an Oct. 9 performance at the same venue. The calendar confirms the scheduled appearances but does not by itself establish what took place at the earlier show.
The group's official history traces its name to King's College, Cambridge. Its original six members were former choral scholars who began singing together separately after their university years and explored music beyond their chapel training.
They recorded together in 1965 and later performed under the name Six Choral Scholars of King's College, Cambridge. The ensemble counts May 1, 1968, when it made its London debut as The King's Singers, as its founding date.
Its history describes a growing relationship with broadcasters, record companies, composers and arrangers following that debut, and a 35-concert tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1972 as an important start to its international touring career.
For Kuching this weekend, the confirmed attraction is the combination of a scheduled international ensemble appearance and a programme aimed at choral learning and exchange. The festival calendar runs through Monday, while Sunday's separately listed concert provides the clearest planning details for the general audience.
